Twee tips van 'The Telegraph': Gdańsk en Wrocław

Als wij het zeggen is het natuurlijk niet objectief maar als de krant 'The Telegraph' de steden Gdańsk en Wrocław in een rijtje van steden zet moet je opletten.

The Telegraph benoemt in haar lijstje 22 steden waar je misschien niet direct aan denkt maar die je wel zou moeten bezoeken. De twee Poolse steden op dit lijstje zijn: Gdańsk en Wrocław. Hieronder hun reden om deze steden op je lijstje te zetten.

Gdańsk

Gdańsk, The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge visited the Polish city this summer. Despite being integral to modern history (it was where the first shots of the Second World War were fired, and is the birthplace of the "Solidarnosc" movement), few Britons know much about it, and even fewer visit

Those that do (and you can get there non-stop from London with both Wizz Air and Ryanair) can admire an astounding mixture of medieval, Renaissance and Gothic architecture, including St. Mary's Church, one of the largest brick churches in Europe, and visit a clutch of engaging maritime and military museums. Unesco-listed Malbork Castle, meanwhile, is an easy day trip.

Wrocław

Wrocław (pronounced 'vrot-swaff'), is packed with handsome buildings and cultural treats, from Ostrów Tumski -"Cathedral Island"– to Rynek, its ancient market square, which is overlooked by the resplendent 14th-century City Hall.
