De laatste recente release is Valley of Shadows, een Scandinavische productie:
Zijn discografie telt echter veel meer werk omdat het muzikale werk van Preisner ook op zichzelf kan staan en hij naast het filmwerk ook andere composities maakt. Zo verscheen in april het album Piano Music, een dubbel CD gespeeld door de Nederlandse pianist Jeroen Van Veen.
Politieke controverse
De awarduitreiking was aanleiding voor een politieke controverse. Ter ere van de award zou de Poolse ambassadeur in Israël een toespraak houden. Dit werd echter geweigerd door de componist volgens de site Israel international news:
The Polish ambassador had been asked to deliver the speech by the festival’s organizers, and the Polish Institute in Tel Aviv had agreed to finance a concert in honor of Preisner and invite the festival artists to a gala dinner.
However, the composer’s manager said in a statement that “we are surprised that the Institute has some connections with the concert,” and “as long as the current party rules in Poland, Mr. Preisner will not meet representatives of the current government.”
“I invariably think that (…) every outstanding Polish artist deserves the support of the Polish State as part of the promotion of our culture abroad,” wrote Magierowski in his letter posted on Twitter.
“However, respecting your political choices, I decided to give up my speech, about which I sadly told the festival organizers, because I would not like you to feel any discomfort, listening to the words of the representative of the Polish Republic. To not make this discomfort even worse, the Polish Institute in Tel Aviv also withdrew from the financing of the concert. ”
Preisners samenwerking met Kieslowski
In de Jerusalem Post is een interview te lezen waar de componist in gaat op de unieke samenwerking die hij had met de Poolse regisseur Krzysztof Kieslowski. Kieslowski geniet in Nederland vooral bekendheid door zijn Dekalogen en het drieluik 'Trois Couleurs'.
Het verhaal is vaker verteld maar vanuit een toevallige ontmoeting ontstond een lang durende vriendschap en samenwerking die zo ver ging dat Preisner niet alleen veel vrijheid kreeg bij zin werk maar door zijn muziek de film mede vormgaf. Reden voor Kieslowski om Preisner ook als 'co-writer' op te nemen in de aftiteling.
Aan de samenwerking kwam een einde toen Kieslowski 1996 overleed. Voor Preisner aanleiding voor het componeren van Reqium for my Friend.
